It is a fruit that many expected on market stalls. Strawberries are making a comeback, something to delight young and old alike.
They found the market stalls. The best known: the gariguette strawberry. In Loire-Atlantique, it can be found at less than five euros a tray from a producer. A reasonable price according to some customers. “The price hasn’t changed since last year,” commented one consumer. The regulars were therefore tempted by the strawberry as soon as it arrived at the market. “They were picked very close to here, they taste great”explains another client.
80 tonnes harvested last year
In the spring, Patrick grows three varieties of strawberries on the coast. Despite the capricious weather, the harvest seems to have started well. “There are eight to ten days behind last year, it’s true that the summer was very long, a little gray, it lacked sunshine”, he explains. He collected last year, 80 tons of this fruit in supermarkets, but also in restaurants. But this operation also opens its doors to individuals. Something to delight young and old: “I have 1,200 strawberries and I have nine euros”. Strawberries will be harvested until the end of summer.
