The Galaxy Z Fold 5 could adopt a teardrop hinge, a slot for the S Pen as well as a new photo configuration. The year of change may finally be here.
After a generation of Galaxy Z Fold 4 a little plan-plan, Samsung seems determined to press the accelerator for its folding smartphones, no doubt a little rushed by the arrival of competitors on the market like the Honor Magic Vs.
This is at least what we can interpret from various leaks on the next folding model in book format, the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
New hinge
Let’s start with the relatively serious Ice Universeprolific leaker, who argues that Samsung would be ready to “apply teardrop hinge structure” from the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Internally, it would be nicknamed hinge “dumbbell” and it would be waterproof.
If Samsung really takes the step of the teardrop hinge, it will make it one less argument against its phones. Indeed, the Suwon firm was the only one not to offer any type of design on its folding chairs. It was also the only one in the global folding market with Huawei, which gave it a clear advantage and probably did not require it to conform to a more accomplished design. If Samsung really makes this choice, the arrival of real competition can therefore be considered as the decisive criterion for this change.
New photo setup
Another leak from the Vietnamese media The Pixel seems interesting. According to them, the next Galaxy Z Fold 5 would change the main sensor again. It would therefore abandon the 50 megapixel for 108 megapixel. This change could cause the device to gain a few grams on the scale, going from 263 to 275 grams. In addition to this improvement, the Z Fold 5 could adopt a 64 megapixel sensor to accompany an X2 optical zoom. The presence of a dedicated slot for the S Pen within the phone itself is also mentioned.
Let’s be clear, all these elements still look a lot like a wish list that we could send to Samsung for 2023. We should therefore remain relatively cautious. If the new hinge seems realistic, given that all of Samsung’s competitors use it, changing the photo configuration for two years in a row on the same model seems unlikely. As a reminder, the switch to 50 megapixels only dates from the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
