Jean Bardail, elected from the municipality of Morne-à-l’eau, had challenged a group of young people asking them to lower the volume of their radio.

Present on the port of Vieux-Bourg with friends, the city councilor had previously challenged the group to lower the volume of their radio. Faced with the invectives addressed to him by the latter, the mayor – who had not given his identity – called the gendarmerie.

“Pushed in the Back”

The young people then came to blows.

“There is one who approached and pushed me in the back”, says the mayor in Guadeloupe the 1st. “As I continued to call to join the gendarmes, he pushed me again and threw me into the water.”

The firefighters then took charge of the chosen one by taking him to the emergency room. If he suffers from a bruised knee, he was finally able to go home at 4am. According to him, his attackers are not residents of his commune and seemed to be returning from a boat trip.

“To attack an elected representative of the Republic is to attack the entire Republic”, reacted the prefect of Guadeloupe. “A gendarmerie investigation is underway, and I hope that the perpetrators will be quickly identified to answer for their actions in court.”
