Harvey Weinstein reportedly hospitalized for pneumonia and COVID-19

MIAMI.- The former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was transferred from the Rikers Island prison, where he is serving his sentence for sexual assault, to the corrections department of Bellevue Hospital and is hospitalized due to pneumonia and COVID-19 that was diagnosed.

The incident occurred on July 25, and the information was confirmed by his representative Craig Rothfeld to NBC Newswho also reported that the 72-year-old man has other ailments that have seriously affected him.

“He is being treated for diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, fluid in his heart and lungs and several other conditions. Additionally, Mr. Weinstein has tested positive for COVID and contracted double pneumonia,” the spokesperson told NBC News.

New trial

In April, the New York Court of Appeals overturned Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 rape conviction on the grounds that the judge in the case allowed witnesses to testify about allegations that were not part of the case.

“We conclude that the court erroneously permitted statements about alleged prior sexual acts against persons who were not the plaintiffs in the underlying offenses,” the state’s highest court said in a 4-3 ruling. “The remedy for these outrageous errors is a new trial.”

The event reopened an important chapter on the abuse of power.

However, the prosecutor has already filed charges of sexual violence and the man is awaiting a new trial.

The sentence imposed in Los Angeles of 16 years in prison remains in effect.
