Exciting: Apple has introduced the big, new second-generation HomePod. He costs 349 euros – and he has also been taught new tricks. Among other things, it has sensors for detecting room temperature and humidity. So far, no HomePod has been able to do this, although the Mini has already been assumed to have the corresponding capabilities.

Anyway, I’m studying just the technical data of the new HomePod on Apple’s website, I noticed that the HomePod mini now costs 109 euros and not 99 euros as before. Much more exciting but in a direct comparison of the HomePods: The HomePod mini now also has the ability to measure temperature and humidity.

Noise detection is also included. But that only comes after an update. Sound detection will be available via software update later this spring. Sound detection can detect smoke and carbon monoxide alarm sounds and send users notifications when the sounds are detected. Sound detection requires the updated Home architecture, which will be available as a separate update in the Home app. It requires the latest software to be used on all Apple devices connected to the smart home. In other words, when iOS 16.3 and the new Home architecture are released soon, the HomePod mini should have new tricks up its sleeve. Cool.
