Deadline got an update on Warner Bros. Discovery’s plans by interviewing writer-producer Akiva Goldsman, who has returned to the company to handle several projects, including the sequel to ‘I’m legend’.

Akiva Goldsman spoke about the highly anticipated film: “We are starting with two projects that are fun and very Warner”.

Regarding the plot of the film, Goldsman indicated that it will be inspired by The last of us and that one of the cities that can be seen is New York.

“It will start a few decades later than the first. I’m obsessed with The Last of Us, where we see the world right after the apocalypse, but also after a lapse of 20 to 30 years.”

“As the man is no longer the main tenant, what happens? That will be especially visual in New York. I don’t know if they will go up to the Empire State Building, but the possibilities are endless.”

Akiva Goldsman revealed that for the sequel to ‘I am legend’ they will return to the roots of Richard Matheson’s novel, published in 1954. The producer commented the following:

“We go back to Matheson’s original book and alternate ending instead of the one published in the movie. Matheson was talking about how man’s time on the planet as the dominant species had come to an end. That’s something really interesting that we’re going to explore. There will be a little more fidelity to the original text”,

According to the information obtained by Deadline, it is not known with certainty what the role of Michael B. Jordan will be in the production, although it has been confirmed that he will be part of the cast.
