The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that la Listeria monocytogenes may cause listeriosis a serious infection that sickens about 1,600 people each year and can be fatal.
“Although healthy people may suffer only short-term symptoms, such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, infection with Listeria can cause spontaneous abortions and stillbirths among pregnant women,” states FDA alert .
The FDA notes that no sick people have been reported to date.
