Through his intervention on the airwaves of the national radio, the president of the High Authority for Transparency and the Fight against Corruption, namely Salima Mousserati gave more details on the measures taken to fight against corruption, especially in administrative circles. In this sense, the aforesaid official reported the establishment of a central unit dedicated to administrative and financial investigations, on the crime ofillicit enrichment of officials.

And this, as soon as the development of this project is completed, which will subsequently be submitted to the Presidency of the Republic. Indeed, employees who are the subject of suspicion will be subject to an investigation. In the event that one notices a significant increase in their wealth. Or the existence of an anomaly in the declaration of their assets at the beginning and at the end of their mission.

Corruption Algeria: Nearly 466 complaints registered

In addition, Mousserati revealed that “its services have registered 466 complaints reporting acts of corruption”. This since July 2022. Of these complaints, 177 were reported anonymously. These will be used to collect information relating to acts of corruption. As for the remaining 267 complaints, they were followed by the opening of investigations, she adds.

The director also indicated that she “personally supervises the periodic meeting of the monitoring unit in order to study complaints”. Subsequently, the departments responsible will contact the competent authorities. Indeed, this process is possible “if these declarations meet the formal conditions mentioned in article 6 (of law 22-08)”. Mousserati recalled that anyone with “evidence relating to acts of corruption, has the right to report them to the HATPLC”.

However, these complaints “must be in writing, signed and containing elements relating to the facts of corruption”.

Fight against corruption: these are the objectives of the HATPLC

In the same vein, the director of the HATPLC indicated that her services will launch, in the coming days, the national transparency strategy. In detail, this strategy will see the light of day at the end of the first quarter of 2023. “This is the last phase of preparation for the launch of the national transparency strategy,” she said. According to Mousserati, the HATPLC has set 5 objectives within the framework of this strategy.

To this end, we can cite the moralization of public life and the strengthening of transparency. As well as the recovery of property in the economic field. Without forgetting the enhancement of the role of the supervisory authorities and the strengthening of the media and civil society. Indeed, the achievement of these objectives, “requires the involvement of all the living and active forces of society”, recalls the same speaker.

She also underlined the key role played by Algeria at the international level, in the development and ratification of several international and regional agreements. Wishing thus the application of the national model of the fight against corruption at the global and regional level.
