Mexico City.– In the midst of the “brutal campaign” it accuses, the INAI affirmed that the Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López, has intervened to prevent compliance with transparency obligations.
The four commissioners of the body in charge of ensuring transparency tried to meet but, due to the lack of one more, a quorum was not reached.
Before the press, Commissioner Julieta del Río said that she knew of calls to the transparency units to force them not to comply with their obligations.
“They told me. We all have the chat to communicate. A person from a transparency unit approached me and said: ‘commissioner, what do we do? There are transparency units, we are struggling a lot, so that they generate the information, the administrative areas, because they tell us we are no longer going to deliver anything. And I ask them, who told them, well I can’t say, but it’s the second in command. Well, the second in command is the Secretary of the Interior” , he detailed.
In the atmosphere of anxiety that is breathed in the Institute, the president commissioner, Blanca Lilia Ibarra, assured that they will fight.
“We will die on the line to defend INAI,” he warned.
The four commissioners who appeared before the press acknowledged that the body could die due to lack of budget if things do not change between now and next November, although they reported that in the last session, on March 30, they took the foresight to prepare a sketch.
In any case, they noted, the INAI already has a backlog of a thousand resources that require a quorum and 3,296 in process.
“INAI is, has been and will continue to be uncomfortable for power. The reason is simple: INAI does not work to please the rulers; on the contrary: its duty is to defend people from the authorities, when they deny them their legitimate right to know about public life, or when they mistreat their personal data,” said the commissioner president.
“Since its creation, the INAI has faced resistance from political actors, because it has exposed its irregularities, but mainly because it has become an instrument to control power and effectively empower citizens.”
Ibarra revealed that this Tuesday the INAI filed a complaint appeal so that the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation grants it the possibility of meeting with four of its seven commissioners, who called on the population to come out in defense of the body.
