The Financial Inspection and Control Commission of the Chamber of Deputies released today (18) the results of technical visits to hospitals and federal institutes in Rio de Janeiro. Between April 15th and 17th, the group visited nine locations and encountered problems such as more than 300 beds and unused facilities, mainly due to a lack of doctors and work stoppages. In some closed areas, conditions were unsanitary, with the presence of sewage, pigeons, bats and rats.

Inspections were carried out at the federal hospitals Cardoso Fontes (HFCF), Bonsucesso (HFB), Ipanema (HFI), Lagoa (HFL), Andaraí (HFA), State Servers (HFSE) and the National Institutes of Cardiology (INC), Traumatology and Orthopedics (INTO) and Cancer José Alencar Gomes da Silva (INCA).

The conclusion of the deputies is that the situation in the federal network of Rio de Janeiro is one of abandonment. They noted that the operational capacity of these locations is reduced due to lack of investment and a deficit in staff. The group identified waste of resources, such as 68 new beds at the Hospital dos Servidores do Estado that were never used and unfinished works in the kitchen at Hospital do Andaraí, which generate an extra cost of R$ 1.5 million per month with transport of food.
