Two Swedish sprint aces made their season debut in the World Cup in Italian Livigno on Saturday. Jonna Sundling was the best of all, while Linn Svahn hooked on the brutal riot.

Due to Ski FM in Tampere, the Finnish skiers were missing as the World Cup continued in Italy with freestyle sprint on Saturday.

Then it went exactly as expected.

Johannes Høsflot Klæbo took care of the victory on the men’s side, but was seriously challenged by Richard Jouve in the race. Klæbo looked set to lose his lead in the final metres, but managed to squeeze his boot over the finish line ahead of the French competitor.

– A really nice day, sums up a smiling Klæbo in the official TV interview afterwards.

– Above all, considering how nice the course was. It’s only been a month since we were told that this competition, which was supposed to take place in Milan, was moved here, he continues.

The organizers in Livigno had made life really difficult for the riders. The race was basically a hundred meter long uphill.

– When you got to the beginning of it and realized how much there was left, you broke a little. But it was a really fun fight against Jouve, says Klæbo.

Sundling led the Swedish onslaught

Just as expected as a Klæbo victory on the men’s side was a Swedish triple victory in the women’s final. At the same time, there were several interesting questions to be answered, not least by Jonna Sundling and Linn Svahn.

The two sprint experts did their first World Cup competition of the season. Sundling immediately showed that she will be classified as one of the gold favorites in the Planica WC in about a month.

Sundling managed to shake off both Maja Dahlqvist and Emma Ringbom in the race and took care of the victory. See video of the final battle by clicking on the main image of the article.

– It has been challenging, but I felt that I could push all the time. And when I get to stand here, I’m just happy, says an exuberantly happy Sundling in the TV interview. Sundling’s start to the season was spoiled by a persistent illness. “A nightmare”, she has spoken about in the Swedish media.

Linn Svahn’s last year can certainly be described with the same words. She, in turn, must continue to work on her form.
