The musical hails from Lionsgate, the distributor behind the 2016 feature film. The original film’s composer Justin Hurwitz will return along with composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul to write new music for the musical.

The film, starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, followed an aspiring actress and a jazz musician as they pursued their dreams in Los Angeles. The film won Oscars for Director, Lead Actress, Production Design, Cinematography, Original Score, and Original Song among its 14 nominations.

“I am delighted to be joining Lionsgate and the incredible team behind La La Land to adapt the film for the Broadway stage, the next exciting chapter in its evolution,” said the film’s producer Marc Platt.

“We’ve assembled a world-class team to create a musical that will delight today’s millions of La La Land fans and introduce the property to a whole new audience.”
