First the FDP, then the CDU and now the left: after Linda Teuteberg and Gregor Ryssel, the parliamentary group manager Sascha Krämer has now also spoken out in the debate about the new name of the House of Brandenburg-Prussian History (HBPG). “Everyone should be happy according to his style”, this quote attributed to Frederick II and often brought into play in the context of the demand for tolerance does not apply in the current debate, according to Krämer in a statement. Where, as at the HBPG, they dare to “modernize the unwieldy name and delete Prussia”, “tolerance in this country stops”.

The debate about the house on the Neuer Markt started when director Katja Melzer announced that she wanted to give the place a more memorable name for its 20th anniversary in December 2023. While Teuteberg and Ryssel argued for the term “Prussia” to be retained in the name, Krämer writes: “Our history is much more than Prussia”.

It is important to discuss Prussia from different perspectives. However, Krämer does not want to limit the discussion to the name debate: “Let’s talk about the content of the house, its educational mission, the question of how do we reach people and convey history and what lessons do we draw from it.”
