Louis Vuitton celebrates diversity with politically resonant parade

PARS.- The American musician Pharrell Williams invoked human diversity at UNESCO headquarters in Paris today – June 18 – with a new parade for the brand Louis Vuitton, that gained a certain political resonance, in the middle of the French electoral campaign.

Diversity, but within unity: that was the message of the rapper and designer of the luxury brand’s men’s clothing line, who inaugurated Paris Fashion Week with a spectacular show.

In less than two weeks, France is holding early legislative elections in two rounds, in which the extreme right is the favorite.

“The collection illustrates the degrees of similarity that unites us all on the planet,” explained the designer in the show’s presentation notes.

With a small classical orchestra and a gospel choir, the event began with the parade of exclusively black men, wearing jet-black, double-breasted or tuxedo-type suits, or dark purple velvet.

Aviator-style leather jackets, long coats with wide collars to protect from the rain.

He highlighted a short transparent raincoat, an acidic magenta color, over a rigorous black suit.

The skin tones of the models were lightening and with them the clothes. Sports jackets in gray tones, over ivory shirts and ties. The models, mestizo or mulatto, carry small handbags or carry huge trunks with wheelbarrows, recalling the origins of the brand.

The traditional Louis Vuitton checkerboard is applied to the globe, which prints on shirts and jackets.

Allusions to sport soon appear. “… with football, the most unifying sport in the world,” recalled the American creator.

The shirts are printed with bright colors, the Louis Vuitton logo as if it were that of a club. On the feet, footwear that imitates football boots.

The white suits and thick mink coats are worn by men of Nordic appearance.

The Williams formula for Louis Vuitton

At 51 years old, Pharrell Williams has managed to climb into the elite of men’s fashion with just three collections.

His formula?: count on the collaboration of his extensive network of friends from the world of music, art and sports to give more shine to some shows spectacular.

Among the guests were French actor Omar Sy, former soccer player Didier Drogba, Nigerian singer Burna Boy, and San Antonio Spurs basketball player Victor Wembanyama.

The author of Happy He generously uses, like his predecessors, the LV anagram and the name Louis Vuitton to stamp a wardrobe that draws on all styles.

The powerful French luxury group LVMH announced in April an agreement with UNESCO (the UN body for culture and education) to strengthen their common projects on ecological sustainability.

This aspect is one of those that arouses the most criticism among detractors of fashion and luxury.

LV’s men’s fashion sales have benefited from the Williams effect, to the point that it has slightly eclipsed Nicolas Ghesquire, its counterpart in charge of women’s collections.

Ghesquire presented his women’s cruise collection three weeks ago in Barcelona’s Gell Park.

Fashion Week has a packed agenda of shows and presentations until Sunday the 23rd, when the magazine Vogue celebrate 100 years of sport and fashion on the occasion of the Olympic Games.

The Place Vendme in Paris will welcome a string of celebrities, in the style of the Metropolitan Gala in New York, and with the supermodel and actress Cara Delevingne as master of ceremonies.

The world of fashion is experiencing a certain effervescence with the advancement of the official calendar due to the Olympic Games and several important changes at the head of important houses.

Dries Van Noten will leave the fashion world this week after almost four decades of dedication. His firm continues to present collections, but the Belgian creator leaves the catwalks.

As for haute couture, Chanel unexpectedly announced the departure of its artistic director Virginie Viard.

Balmain, Givenchy and Valentino also refused to present their men’s fashion collections in Paris.
