Silvan Widmer and 1. FSV Mainz 05 plan together for the long term. The captain of the Rheinhessen extended his contract early until 2026. The 05ers announced this on Friday evening yesterday. Widmer came to Mainz from FC Basel two years ago for 2.5 million euros. Since then he has completed 64 competitive games for the Bundesliga club.

Coach Bo Svensson is happy he can continue to count on the right-back: “Silvan has shown from day one that he is an excellent fit for this club, both as a footballer and as a person – the positive influence he has can be seen in the fact that he became captain after just one year with us.”
