Man sentenced for raping a minor in El Salvador

San Salvador.- A man was sentenced by the Justice of El Salvador to 15 years in prison for raping a minor “on more than one occasion”, the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) reported on Monday.

The source detailed, in his account of the social network X (formerly Twitter), that it is Sergio Cortez and that the events occurred during 2017 in the municipality of Sensuntepeque (northeast).

The FRG reported that “the victim left her bicycle at Cortez’s house to go to school, since they were neighbors, and taking advantage of that trust, the defendant sexually abused the minor more than once.”

The report “The Voices of Boys, Girls and Adolescents in Latin America and the Caribbean”, carried out by the World Movement for Children, has indicated that in 75% of cases of sexual abuse of minors there is a direct relationship between the aggressor and the victim.

Amnesty International (AI) has considered El Salvador one of the most dangerous countries in the world for women due to the rates of femicide and the high levels of sexual violence they face.
