According to media reports, US President Joe Biden may officially announce his bid for a second term in the coming week. The Washington Post newspaper and the news channel CNN reported on Thursday that Biden wanted to make the announcement in a video. According to the Washington Post, that could happen Thursday — exactly four years after Biden entered the presidential race against then-President Donald Trump.

However, the newspaper restricted that the plans for announcing Biden’s presidential application were not completed and the date could still be postponed. Biden had already announced his intention to run for the presidency again at the end of February. So far, however, he has not announced this in a formal and thus definitive form.

The 80-year-old Democrat is already the oldest president in US history. Nonetheless, within his own party he is unlikely to face a serious rival in the race for the White House. Among the opposition Republicans, Trump and the former US Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, have so far made their presidential candidatures official. The candidates of both parties will be determined in primary elections, which will be held next year. The presidential election will then take place in November 2024.
