campeche.- Three members of a Mennonite family were murdered and a 13-year-old boy was injured when he stayed last night in the middle of a shootout between hitmen and police in Campeche, according to official information.
The shooting occurred around 7:00 p.m. in the Municipal Board of Alfredo V. Bonfil, located 60 kilometers from the municipal seat, according to the state Prosecutor’s Office.
Renato Sales Heredia, head of the State Attorney General’s Office, assured that the first report of violence occurred when ministerial officers identified four subjects with long weapons aboard a white Hillix truck.
“Once the truck is intercepted, they get out of the trucks and open fire against their colleagues, who repel the attack, and one of the attackers, the driver of the truck, dies,” he said.
Subsequently, three of the hitmen fled and in a subsequent shooting against the ministerials, already supported by state police, the Mennonites were victims of bullets in the crossfire.
“Several people fled, and in the crossfire in which ministers participate, already with the support of the Citizen Security Secretariat, three people from the Mennonite community and the injured minor die,” he added at a press conference. .
In addition to the detainees, it was reported that in the Laureles community, adjacent to the area, another person was detained and a ranch was found with a clandestine grave where there were at least four bodies buried.
Despite the fact that the State Secretary of Education considered that it was not necessary to suspend classes after the acts of violence, the authorities of Alfredo V. Bonfil decided not to carry out activities this Thursday.
“The uncertainty is not only for the parents of the students, but also for the students, the people in general, even the staff of the educational institutions, who fully agreed with the decision,” authorities from the municipal board stated.
