Created by Bruno Heller and broadcast for the first time in the USA in 2008, the American series Mentalist is a successful series both on American soil and internationally, and particularly in France where it was broadcast by TF1. For 7 seasons, millions of spectators have followed the adventures of Patrick Jane and his team at the CBI, the California Bureau of Investigation. The series stars actor Simon Baker in the lead role of Patrick Jane, an independent consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Jane has a remarkable gift for observation and uses it to help law enforcement solve crimes.
Mentalist : a series, but also a mental capacity
Patrick Jane is a colorful character. After scamming people for years, he finally decides to put his special gifts to the service of the police, even if at first it is mainly in order to find and kill the murderer of his family. Because gifts, Jane has heaps. Far from being a superhero with superpowers, he is rather a sort of modern-day Sherlock Holmes capable of analyzing a situation and understanding people through his observations. But what makes him a real mentalist (yes yes it does exist) is his ability to manipulate a situation, thanks to his mind and suggestion techniques. He is a perfect psychologist who understands people very quickly, a skill he developed when he bamboozled his clients. Historically, the mentalist is a type of magician practicing the art of illusion, which applies perfectly to Jane.
