King Charles III will be crowned in May 2023. The Coronation Oil recipe is one of the UK Crown’s most closely guarded secrets. A pharmacist got the order to put together the ointment oil as a “modern” incarnation according to the Bible recipe.

Hull – Of course, the anointing oil of kings is not available at the corner drugstore or in the usual church supply store. But the effort that is made in the name of the monarchy is actually the crowning glory of the coronation. How TheTelegraph learned was the coronation oil with which King Charles III (74) to be anointed in May, allegedly made “secretly” in a housing estate in Hull in eight months.

“I am just a humble pharmacist who has received the greatest honor of his career.”

Retired clergyman and pharmacist Mark Hutton (66) tells the British medium that he used a secret recipe that dates back to Charles I (48, † 1649) and is a “modern” incarnation of Moses’ recipe of myrrh, cinnamon and olive oil used according to the Bible. The 66-year-old, who worked at a LloydsPharmacy pharmacy, says he toiled after the official end of the day to be prepared for the big day of the Coronation on May 6th.

He has Spent months sourcing the many obscure ingredients from across Europe and the world after being approached for the task. Already in the spring of 2000 he was approached by a member of the Lloyds board. Mind you, Queen Elizabeth II (96, † 2022) was fine for another two decades. The last drop may have been burnt at her own coronation, or the oil may have been stored improperly, or simply ordered as a reserve in case tests show that the late monarch’s oil should not be used a second time.

The Queen’s anointing oil

Queen Elizabeth II also placed her trust in the traditional pharmacy of her ancestors. Her anointing oil is kept in a perfume bottle in Westminster Abbey.

Hutton goes on to say he was careful to replace all animal products on the old ingredients list with synthetic versions. “I know it was all a secret, but for me, not only as a pharmacist but also as a now-retired minister, making the coronation oil was a great honor given the biblical history and the importance of the oil – it was for me worth living in,” he says of his exceptional assignment.

The finished oil was reportedly sealed in plastic bottles with standard pharmaceutical labels and stored under lock and key in the basement of John Bell & Croyden pharmacy in Marylebone, central London. The establishment has had close ties to the royal family for more than a hundred years, ever since it received its first royal license in 1909 from George V (70, † 1936). Mark Hutton keeps quiet about whether he was paid and what his wages were. Apparently, the oil does not burden the monarch’s budget too much, after all, they were for Charles III and King’s wife Camilla (75) still have two new thrones for the coronation.
