Lana Del Rey returned to CDMX to promote her new album ‘Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd’. Here is our review of her first night at the Foro Sol.
It’s been 10 years since the first time Lana Del Rey came to Mexico City. That time, she put together her show at the Pepsi Center WTC with a set of 13-14 songs and just a few thousand people in the audience. A decade later, we have to see her at the Foro Sol turned into a superstar.
Despite his sporadic visits in 2014 and 2016, the feeling remained that the we saw her establish herself as a front-line artist in the distance. Only seven years passed before he returned to the Mexican capital… And now he did it with a new album, a repertoire with songs that we could already consider classics of his career, and an attitude that is really seen in few artists.

Cold night with high spirits. Since before 9 at night and before he went on stage, people were already chanting the name of Lana Del Rey very hard in the Foro Sol. And how not if he the desire to see her had been saved for a while.
The singer took only about 5 minutes to leave. But when she stood on stage, we saw one of those shows coming to remember. Her cast of dancers and her musicians came out, with a projection on the screen in which you could read “God bless you, Mexico City”. The first thing of the night was “A&W”, of the new albumto loosen up little by little.
The first shock of nostalgia came immediately when it rang “Young and Beautiful”, releasing the enormous veil of her dress and throwing smiles to the public. “Is that a dream? I’m finally back in Mexico City.” said Lana Del Rey in what was barely her second song of the night at Foro Sol. I’m sure she wasn’t the only one dreaming…
Beyond the music, another incredible aspect of the concert is the theatricality that is handled on stage, huh. While the first songs in the set are soft like “Bartender”, the ballerinas dazzle whether it’s striking choreography or simply accompanying Lana to comb her hair, to say the least. Everything hypnotic.
One smoke right away and what follows is “Chemtrails Over the Country Club”, that maintains the ‘calm’ atmosphere at the beginning of the repertoire… Although well, the audience gave the singer an intense vibe (in the good sense of the word) when other relaxing songs like “The Grants” came on.

After the orchestral part with a ballad vibe –to put it in some way– with which Lana Del Rey started at the Foro Sol, other songs came along such as “Cherry” that brings a few electronic touches dark R&B that live surpass the studio version. Great song.
could not miss “Pretty When You Cry” with Lana and her ballerinas lying on the floor adding a curious mystique to the performance. And since we were in those to remember the “old days” of her career, a clip was projected with several sequences of the most iconic videos of the singer. Nice detail to see its evolution. And so came “Ride”.
The smile did not fall to Lana Del Rey. As could be seen on social networks at the beginning of the week, has had a reception full of affection with the people in CDMX. Surely seeing a venue like Foro Sol so vibrant gave you an idea of what its name means in our country. “The pleasure is mine”, he said before singing a cover of Tammy Wynette’s “Stand By Your Man”.
Then came other songs already stamped as classics for her, such as “Blue Jeans” (to romance at ease), “Norman Fucking Rockwell”, “Arcadia” and “Ultraviolence”which gave way to one of the greatest moments of the night.
Lana came down from the stage to mingle with the fans who were at the nearest fence. That the selfie, hugs, the occasional kiss, stuffed animals, flowers… Del Rey was lovedsigned autographs and even spread the Mexican flag. “Lana, sister, you are already Mexican”they yelled at him. Yes, “Born to Die”, “Diet Mountain Dew” and “Summertime Sadness” also played, but remember how we told you at the beginning that Lana Del Rey came with an attitude that you don’t always see in artists? The point is that the singer added to her repertoire some songs that I had not contemplated.
It seems that some fans from hell they were singing outside his window. Later, in the Foro Sol, many others did their best to ask him from afar to play “Cinnamon Girl” and “Get Free”, who were not on the sets of recent performances. And the miracle happened… A gift that only the Mexican public can boast for now.
Lana Del Rey closed at the Foro Sol with “Candy Necklace”, “Video Games”, “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd” and “Hope Is a Dangerous Thing…”. It was one of those concerts where the affection between fans and artist is at its highest point. When Lana said that “Mexico has my heart”we understood everything.
