Mexico reports the first discovery of a lifeless body near the buoys in the Rio Grande

The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Relations said in a statement that authorities are trying to recover the body, located at 2:35 p.m., and that they do not know the cause of death or the person’s nationality.

Mexico had warned about the risks posed by the huge orange buoys that stretch some 305 meters into the Rio Grande, which in English is called the Rio Grande.

The government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador sent two diplomatic notes to the United States to reject the installation of buoys and a barbed wire fence, as well as the movement of earth on an islet in the riverbed in the area that separates the Mexican city of Piedras Negras. from the American Eagle Pass.

“We express our concern about the impact on the human rights and security of migrants that these state policies will have,” says the letter from the Mexican Foreign Ministry.

The barrier that was installed in July is designed to make it difficult for migrants to climb or swim below the buoys.

The US Department of Justice sued to have Abbott remove the floating barrier. The Joe Biden government claims the barrier poses humanitarian and environmental concerns.

The buoys are the latest escalation in the Texas border security operation, which also includes a barbed wire barrier and the detention of immigrants accused of trespassing.

López Obrador considered Abbott’s measures as electoral publicity actions. “All that the governor of Texas is doing… is politicking, publicity, a demagogic attitude… It is the search for votes, a coarse populism,” said the president.
