Miami Dolphins hire a valuable figure

MIAMI-. Los Dolphins de Miami have agreed to sign safety Marcus Maye on Monday, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press.

The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the deal has not yet been announced.

Maye was released by New Orleans in a money-saving move in March after two seasons with the Saints. He had 97 tackles, a quarterback sack, a forced fumble and two interceptions.

Maye, a second-round draft pick of the New York Jets in 2017 out of Florida, had established himself as one of the most consistent safeties in his first five NFL seasons with the Jets. He has eight career interceptions, five fumbles and 4 ½ sacks.

In the 2018 season he had the longest interception return when he took a pass from Case Keenum, then with Denver, in the end zone on the final play of the game and returned it 104 yards before being tackled at the one-yard line.

Maye missed three games last season while serving a suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, stemming from his 2021 arrest in Florida on charges of driving under the influence following his involvement in a car crash in Fort Lauderdale.

Maye is one of the safeties the Dolphins signed in the offseason. He also signed Jordan Poyer, who played last season with the Bills, to a one-year deal at the start of free agency in March.
