Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision has not gone unnoticed and it is not yet entirely clear if it will actually go through. Among other things, they have encountered a setback in the form of the British Competition Authority, which says no to the purchase as they believe it could affect competition in cloud gaming.

Both Microsoft and Activision have announced that they will appeal against the UK Competition Authority’s decision and it now looks significantly more difficult for them to get it all through. A heavy blow to both companies and as if that were not enough, Microsoft will have to pay Activision three billion dollars in a kind of breakup fee if this happens. Small money in the context, of course, as the entire purchase of Activision will cost Microsoft 69 billion dollars if it is approved.

To be continued, we certainly haven’t seen the last twist in this yet.

Do you think the purchase will go through in the end?

Activision will thus receive some money regardless of the outcome.
