Moon Studios (Ori) wants to compete with Diablo and Path of Exile with its future game

Thomas Mahler seems to be a man of challenge. Very committed to the future action RPG of his teams, the Director of Moon Studios (Ori and the Will of the Wisps) also feels enormous pressure on his shoulders. Much is at stake, as the critical reception from the trade press and gamers could have a big impact on the developer’s future when the game is released.

Revolutionize the genre or disappear

This is not a personal thought from our editorial staff, but an official statement from the principal concerned who published a fairly clear message on his Twitter account:

“Our next project will be a watershed moment for Moon. Either we manage to revolutionize the ARPG genre or we’ll slowly disappear into the distance. It should be scary, but I love the challenge! Diablo, PoE, etc.: We’re coming for you, may the best win!

Coming to challenge Path of Exile and Diablo on their own turf, so this is the avowed objective of this project which for the time being still has no name. The two games cited by Thomas Malher could on the other hand provide us with a crucial indication as to the economic model chosen for the one who is nicknamed as being the “little Zelda of Moon Studios”.

If Path of Exile is an action RPG, it is also free-to-play. Could the same be true for the developer’s next title? The evocation of Diablo seems to be much more than a mere coincidence. Will this mystery project offer revolutionary gameplay inspired by Diablo IV and whose first steps will not be long in coming?

Although many things remain to be discovered, we do know that this future production already benefits from strong support with the contribution of Private Division (a subsidiary of Take-Two) which will take care of the distribution.

Another important element, this app will not be exclusive to Xbox consoles. The designers of Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps have already announced plans to bring their new creation to more media.
