The former Ukrainian MP Irina Farion has been shot in the head late on Friday by an unidentified individual who fled the scene. The incident took place in the city of Lviv, about 70 kilometres from the border with Poland.
Aged 60 and a linguist by profession, she served as a member of parliament from 2012 to 2024 as a member of the Svoboda party. She gained national notoriety, especially, for her Defense of the Ukrainian language and its anti-Russian discourseShe was taken to hospital in critical condition, but doctors were unable to do anything to save her life.
According to Interior Minister Igor Klimenko, the Ukrainian police are considering various hypotheses regarding the events with Farion. Among them are political activity, as well as a possible personal animosity towards the former MP.
