Netflix’s hit series will not have a second season. The message posted on the Twitter account of actress Anya Taylor-Joy, heroine of the series, is the result of a hack, she says.

The series that sparked a chess craze will not return. After briefly hinting on his Twitter account that there would be a Ladies game season 2, Anya Taylor-Joy reported that her account was hacked. “The Queen’s Gambit 2,” the post announced, posted on January 30, and deleted after 10 minutes, according to variety.

The actress also posted an update on Instagram stating:
“My Twitter account was hacked. My apologies for the inconvenience. It’s not me.”

No season 2 for the Ladies game, So. The Netflix series released in November 2020 was a big hit on Netflix and reignited interest in playing chess. According to Netflix figures at the time, 62 million accounts watched the series in the first 28 days it aired, a record for 2020.

The series follows the journey of a young American orphan from Kentucky in the 1950s, then 1960s, gifted at chess and addicted to tranquilizers. You don’t have to be a chess pro, or even know anything about it, to be seduced by this feminist series, led by a fascinating heroine.

The series, adapted from a novel published in 1983, and signed Walter Tevis, won eleven Emmy Awards.
