Huge blow from Netflix who managed to recruit David Benioff and DB Weiss, the two creators of the Game of Thrones series, the biggest television success of the last decade. For some time now, the two men have been working for the platform on a particularly ambitious project: the adaptation of the sci-fi novel The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin, a saga that comes straight from China. “The most ambitious science fiction book” that the duo read from them.
A true best-seller, the Three-Body Problem is a choral story spanning the 1960s to the present day, and narrates the encounter between humanity and an extra-terrestrial race ready to do battle. Literary saga with an ambitious story, multiplicity of points of view and characters, great human fresco… here we find many points in common with the previous work of the two showrunners.
The two men also continue to dig into Game of Thrones since the series will be carried by Liam Cunningham, who played Ser Davos Mervault for all eight seasons of the HBO series. According to him, this new program should faithfully transcribe the plot of the books. He thus asserted that “those involved in the making take hold of Liu Cixin’s books with the utmost respect”. From Game of Thrones, we also find John Bradley (Samwell Tarly) and Jonathan Pryce (the Great Sparrow).
