For 30 years, the cattle in the fields of Revinghed have interacted with tanks and soldiers. The land is owned by the Fortifications Agency and KC Ranch has the right of use for its grazing animals.

But now the rules of the game have changed and it will be a problem to grow winter fodder and the areas of refuge during the exercises will be too small, something that ATL was first to report about.

– The areas to which the animals are referred are so small that we will not be able to have all the animals there, says Lilly Dahlgren, co-owner of KC Ranch.

The ranch owners also believe that the land they are allocated for their roughly 1,600 cattle is too wet and sunken.

– The animals will walk with dung up to their knees, says Karl Dahlgren at KC Ranch.

First hand military field

The Fortifications Agency, which owns land and real estate used by the Swedish Armed Forces, believes that it is a challenge to combine the two operations at Revingehed.

– The area is primarily a military training ground and needs to be developed for that purpose. We regret that a long era of ranch management is now coming to an end and are working together with the Swedish Armed Forces for a good solution for how the field should be managed in the future, writes Johanna Holst, press secretary, in a written response from the Fortifications Agency to SVT Nyheter Skåne.

Put down

However, if another solution cannot be found, KC Ranch believes that they will have to wind down their operations and will close early next year.

– Food production is also important, especially during war, so having to shut down feels completely wrong, says Lilly Dahlgren.
