We left 2022 a few days ago and in NHL 23, EA Sports is now looking back on the past year.

The developers have presented the Team of the Year (TOTY), a list of the best players of the past calendar year.

Who’s in?

Overall, NHL 23’s Team of the Year has selected six players (one in each position) they consider “the best on the ice.”

This time the choice fell on the following players:

Cale Makar, who is considered one of the best defensemen and players in the NHL. In 2022 he won the Stanley Cup with Colorado Avalanche.

Roman Josi scored 96 points overall for the Nashville Predators in 2022, making him the top points scorer of the season. He also broke Paul Kariya’s previous record (85 points).

Igor Shesterkin is a goaltender for the New York Rangers and set a new team record for saves in a playoff game and second most saves in a league playoff game with 79 saves. His save rate of .935 in the 2021-2022 season is the third-highest in league history for goaltenders who made at least 50 games in a season.

Connor McDavid is considered the fastest player of the games and led his Edmonton Oilers to the Western Conference Finals. He was also the first player since 2002 to top the scoring charts without playing in the finals.

Nathan MacKinnon is also a Colorado Avalanche player and led all skaters with 13 goals in the 2022 playoffs.

Auston Matthews set the record for most goals by a US-born player in the 2021-22 season, as well as winning the Rocket Richard Trophy, the Ted Lindsay Award for Most Outstanding Player and the Hart Trophy for Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row .

Each of the players mentioned will receive an upgraded Ultimate Team player item in NHL 23 for you to collect. Likewise, players will receive a trophy showing this award.
