In the desktop area, the new RTX 4000 series from Nvidia has so far included the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, 4080 and 4090. Weaker and correspondingly more affordable model series are still to come. With notebooks, on the other hand, the situation is different, because the first models that contain a GeForce RTX 4050, 4060 and 4070 are now available in stores. The RTX 4080 and 4090 are also used. Of course you have to differentiate here, because these are mobile versions of the GPUs that are not directly comparable with the desktop versions.

But: at least there are already 4000 series GPUs from Nvidia in the notebook sector, which are weaker than the AD104 in an RTX 4070 Ti and therefore also allow certain conclusions to be drawn about what awaits us in the desktop sector soon. The PC Games Hardware Price Comparison is currently listing (February 23, 2023, 3:30 p.m.) around 80 notebooks with RTX 4000 GPUs: 12 models with an RTX 4050 from 1200 euros, 16 models with an RTX 4060 from 1300 euros, 23 models with an RTX 4070 from 1700 euros, 18 models with an RTX 4080 from 2600 euros and 12 Models with an RTX 4090 from 4300 euros.

The big price differences between the RTX 4080 and RTX 4070 could be a performance clue. Incidentally, we will be publishing a special on notebooks tomorrow, Friday, in which we will of course also deal with the new GPUs.

There is also the question of whether the notebooks with an RTX 3000 GPU can still be worth buying.

The GeForce RTX 4090 can be used as an indication of the differences between a mobile and desktop version of graphics cards. The mobile version works with the GPU that is in the desktop version of the RTX 4080, and the GPU is also slightly trimmed to reduce power consumption and heat emissions. In tomorrow’s special, we’ll take a closer look at which GPUs are really in the new mobile 4000 series graphics cards.
