According to the makers, the German Netflix mystery series “1899” will not be continued. “We would have loved to have ended this incredible journey with a second and third season, just like Dark,” Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar wrote in English in an Instagram post on Monday. “But sometimes things just don’t go as planned. So life is.”

Produced in Babelsberg

In eight episodes, “1899” tells of the mysterious events that took place during a ship’s voyage from London to New York. The series of the “Dark” makers was produced in Berlin Babelsberg with new, amazing technology and was published on November 17th. Netflix has not yet commented on the reasons why “1899” is not continued and how further cooperation with Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar should continue.

The creative duo had landed an impressive success on Netflix with “Dark”, after which further cooperation was agreed. The end of “1899” does not have to mean the end of the cooperation. What is clear, however, is that the streaming service is looking at (international) success, not least in the increasingly tough competition, and at absolutely nothing else.
