Palm Beach County gets ready to resume classes in just two days

In just two days, nearly 190,000 students will be returning to classrooms in Palm Beach County. And to care for these young people, the county sheriff’s office trains members of the school crossing unit.

Just days before school starts in the county, the county sheriff’s office sends a message to parents.

“Remind county drivers that schools open on August 10. Please plan your day accordingly. There’s going to be a lot more traffic on the streets,” said Sgt. Richard Freankiewicz of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

“They have had a nice rest. The last few months the traffic has been very light in the morning. Now there is going to be a lot more traffic. There are going to be a lot more children on the streets, so please add some time,” the women advise. authorities.

The people who watch students crossing streets near schools are school crossing guards, who follow guidelines from the sheriff’s office.

Mothers like Anislay Peláez appreciate the work of the school crossing guards. “It is a very big responsibility, what we parents must do is be in the time that the school has told us to be, not leaving the children unsupervised before is very important.”

Anika Sánchez, a young woman who is starting 7th grade at a middle school in Wellington, assures that “I am prepared and hope that all my teachers are what I expect and that I do very well in my classes.”

Palm Beach County School District is the 10th largest in the country with a total of 189,000 students and more than 12,000 teachers.

The county sheriff’s office requires approximately 50 school crossing guards, this is a part-time job that pays 15.60 an hour and includes pension benefits and free use of health clinics. Those interested can call (561) 688 3805.
