There is a lot of concern among parents in Ruda after the announcement that three middle school classes from autumn 2023 will be moved to Fröviskola in Högsby. They believe that the decision came suddenly, and without any practical information.

– There was a very hasty decision already last week, and it feels like a coup, says Saga Salonen, who herself has children who go to school.

Many are upset by the decision

Several outraged parents gathered earlier this week to protest the decision. It has already been decided that grade six will start in Högsby in the fall, but now it is also about students in grades four and five, which affects 22 students.

Falling pupil numbers in the municipality

The municipality believes that the proposal has been on the table for a long time, in connection with the declining number of students in the municipality, and that the decision had been taken before the next school year regardless.

– The substandard premises accelerate an organizational change that we would still have to make before the next school year, due to a declining pupil base in the municipality, says Marie Lööf, head of school at Högsby municipality, and continues:

– It all means strengthening the quality of teaching, and we make it easier for the students as best we can. Of course, the students are offered school transport, and some teachers will accompany the students to Frövskolan.

Earlier this year, it was decided that the school’s sixth grade would also be moved to Frövskolan in the fall, and the preschool in Långemåla will instead be moved to Ruda.

– We will have an information meeting for the concerned guardians next week to address the concerns that exist, concludes Marie Lööf.
