The leader of La France insoumise is convinced that the general strike day scheduled for January 31 will be particularly followed.

“I think it’s going to be a very determined battle,” said Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of La France insoumise, on Thursday about the fight against pension reform. According to him there is “something which is absolutely new” at present, “is that no one believes that reform is necessary.”

“In the past I have seen a few pass, there were arguments about the imbalance of accounts, people hesitated … This is not the case this time,” he says. He adds that today, “everyone knows that it is a reform that is useless”.

“The general strike will be well attended on the 31st”

“There, two more years of work, no. There is a kind of fed up,” says the far-left leader.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon is therefore certain that “the general strike will be well attended on January 31, because the “subject is on everyone’s mind (…) the 31st will be a very special day.”

The day of January 19 against the pension reform had mobilized 1.12 million demonstrators, according to the authorities, and more than 2 million people, according to the trade unions.
