PAs desirable as the development of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) is, the truth is that projects like this have some risks if certain needs and responsibilities are not met. That’s why a consortium of AI startups and research centers in Portugal decided to form a consortium that aims to develop responsible AI.

The consortium in question – the Center for Responsible AI – is led by Unbabel technology and has now moved forward with the appointment of its governance bodies, noting that it plans to invest 78 million euros in the project. Note that this figure is made up of funds from the PRR and also from the members themselves.

The co-founder and CEO of Unbabel and member of the General Council of the Center for Responsible AI, Vasco Pedro, considers that the project “will have a very positive impact on the country’s competitiveness compared to others who are also investing in Artificial Intelligence”.

The consortium believes that, by 2025, it will be able to develop 21 AI products and, up to 230, generate 250 million euros in exports, creating 215 jobs in the process and awarding 132 academic degrees.

In addition to Vasco Pedro, the General Council is composed of Professor at Carnegie Mellon University and Director of the CMU-Portugal Program, José Manuel Fonseca de Moura; by professor at Instituto Superior Técnico and President of INESC, Arlindo Oliveira; by the VP of Product at Zendesk and co-founder of Cleverly and Talkdesk, Cristina Fonseca; and by the co-founder and Chief Science Officer at Feedzai, Pedro Bizarro.
