Practical Magic sequel confirmed with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman

MIAMI.- Warner Bros. confirmed that he is preparing a sequel of the tape Practical Magic, 26 years after the release of the adaptation of Alice Hoffman’s 1995 novel of the same name. With the announcement, fans of the film are hopeful to see again Sandra Bullock y Nicole Kidman together on screen.

Until now, the study I only anticipated that they are in talks with the Oscar-winning actresses to be part of the project, not only as protagonists but also as executive producers, as revealed. Variety.

Practical Magic tells the story of the Owens sisters, who come from a family of witches, and become involved in a supernatural plot when Sally (Bullock) accidentally murders Gillian’s (Kidman) abusive ex-boyfriend. The film was directed by Griffin Dunne and is classified as a classic of romantic comedies and the Halloween season.

“The film follows the women of the Owens family, a group of magically inclined female spellcasters who are blessed with the supernatural gift but cursed by their matriarch. After being abandoned by her lover, pregnant and alone, Maria Owens finds herself cast a spell on herself to never feel the agony of love again,” reads the synopsis.

Actress Stockard Channing explained that: “As her bitterness grew, the spell became a curse. A curse on any man who dared to love an Owens woman.”

However, sisters Sally and Gillian seek to break the curse and free themselves.

Sequel

In 2019, HBO wanted to continue this story with the series Rules of Magic, a plot that derived from the film and was based on Hoffman’s prequel novel. However, the project did not see the light of day.

In the new installment, Akiva Goldsman will be in charge of bringing the script to life, and Denise Di Novi will be the producer.

After it became official that the sequel is in the works, the classic scene in which the Owens women share margaritas in the kitchen and dance became a trend on social media.

In the 1998 film, the soundtrack is composed of compositions that capture the essence of the story like a Stevie Nicks re-recording of Crystal y If You Ever Did Believe, in addition to A Case of You by Joni Mitchell.
