President of Peru on dispute over Rolex watches: they are a loan

LIMA- The president of Peru, Dina boluarte, She declared this Friday that the Rolex watches and jewelry for which she is being investigated were “a loan” from her “friend” the governor of Ayacucho, Wilfredo Oscorima, and acknowledged that it was a mistake to accept these items and that they have already been returned.

“I know you were waiting to know the truth about the watches and jewelry after so much biased news. The truth is only one, I must admit that it was a mistake to have accepted these watches as a loan from my friend Wilfredo Oscorima, my brother, I lent them, in the spirit of wanting to represent my country well, they led me to accept that loan, which I have already returned,” said Boluarte from the Government Palace, after five hours of appearance before the country’s prosecutor’s office.

In this context, the Peruvian president stated, “as those watches are not her property, she was not obliged to declare them in (her) declaration of assets and income” and reiterated that everything that was said about the aforementioned watches and jewelry is fake.

Likewise, he alleged that his lawyer, Mateo Castañeda, recommended that he respond and testify first before the competent authority and then go to the country, emphasizing that “that is what I did and that is all regarding the watches and jewelry,” he indicated. .

“Skip the page”

On the other hand, the Peruvian president appealed to the prosecutors in the case to ask them to be more cautious when qualifying her complaints and to “not become” tables for some biased press.

“I asked you to stop improper leaks in all cases, not just mine, in all cases, how much damage they can do to humble citizens and I asked all of us to turn this page to deal with what really matters which is the National Agenda,” he added.

The president also thanked Congress for its responsibility in having granted the Council of Ministers a vote of confidence and for having denied two vacancy motions.

“Enough of continuing to operate with black hands against the country, with these hoaxes and smoke screens that benefit no one and only harm the country and its international image,” Boluarte concluded, defending that his Government is based on facts and not of false hopes.

Boluarte is being investigated for a crime of alleged illicit enrichment to the detriment of the State for the possession of several luxury watches that she wore in her interventions. The Police and the Prosecutor’s Office searched the Government Palace and the president’s personal residence over the weekend.

The watches and jewelry did not appear in the sworn statements and represent a significant unjustified increase in assets, according to the investigation, which is why the opposition led by the Peru Libre party presented a motion for vacancy due to moral incapacity against Boluarte.
