The president of the MoDem François Bayrou “does not rule out” the possibility of a fourth campaign in 2027, he declared on the set of BFM Politique on Sunday.

Never three without four? Candidate three times in a presidential election (2002, 2007, 2012), the president of the MoDem François Bayrou “does not rule out” the possibility of a fourth campaign in 2027, he declared Sunday on the set of BFM Politics.

“What do you want to ask me about the Élysée Palace?” he smiled slightly at the sight of a photo of the presidential palace. The right arm of Emmanuel Macron, appointed high commissioner for planning in 2020, could well prepare his coup for 2027.

“Is it for me, personally, an obsession of every morning? No. Is that, that said, it is a discarded commitment? No”, meant François Bayrou.

“If there is a single politician who does not think about the major election, it is because we wonder what he is doing in this commitment”, he noted, before adding that “this is where it all comes down to”.

The 71-year-old mayor of Pau believes that he “was too young a candidate at certain times for the presidency of the Republic”. But he considers that he just missed his bet.

“We almost achieved in 2007 what was achieved in 2017 with Emmanuel Macron”, he recalled.

“Today if you look at all the countries in the world without almost any exception, all have Presidents of the Republic of the same age or older than me”, underlined François Bayrou, giving the example of Lula recently re-elected in Brazil.

And the head of the Modem to repeat himself on his possible candidacy: “I do not have this obsession but I never exclude anything”. For Emmanuel Macron, the danger could well come from his own camp.
