On September 8, 2022, Queen Elizabeth II died at her Balmoral residence, Scotland, at 96 years old, after a reign of 70 years. After coming to the throne in 1952, Queen Elizabeth had the longest reign in British history.

One year after his death, prince harry has shared a heartfelt tribute presenting the Inspirational Child Award at the 2023 WellChild Awards in the UK.

The Duke of Sussex said: “As you know, I couldn’t attend the awards last year because my grandmother passed away. As you probably also knowshe would have been the first person to insist that I still come to be with all of you instead of coming to her.”

“And that is precisely why I know, exactly one year later, that she is looking at us all tonight, happy that we are together, and continues to highlight such an incredible community”.

Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, were scheduled to attend the WellChaild Awards last year when they received news of the Queen’s death. At that time, Prince Harry rushed to Balmoral to be at his grandmother’s side along with his brother, Prince William.

Although Markle did not travel with her husband, she was present at Queen Elizabeth’s funeralwhich took place on September 19 at Westminster Abbey in London.

Tensions between Prince Harry and the royal family

Since Harry and Megan announced they would be stepping back from royal duties in 2020the situation began to become tense with the rest of the royal family.

The tension worsened when at the end of 2022 the couple released the Netflix documentary, “Harry & Meghan”. This delved into both their stance on the British media, in addition to revealing details of Meghan’s relationship with her family.

In January of this year, Harry published a memoir, titled “Spare”in which he spoke out against his family. It unfolds from the death of Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, in 1997, through his stunted and youthful adolescence, and subsequently, his days in the army and his marriage to Meghan Markle, to the point where he decided to resign as a member high-ranking member of the British royal family in 2020.
