According to media reports, at least 100 civilians were killed in a military airstrike in Myanmar. Children were among the victims, the Delta News Agency reported today, citing eyewitnesses.

The military junta’s forces fired rockets at Pazigyi township in the central Sagaing region of the country early this morning, just as an opening ceremony for a new office of the anti-junta’s People’s Defense Forces was being held there. It was said that many people from neighboring villages had also come to this.

Violence after putsch two years ago

Fierce fighting has recently broken out in the region between the military and armed groups that are resisting the junta. Generals had seized power in the crisis country in February 2021.

Prime Minister Aung San Suu Kyi was arrested. The Nobel Peace Prize winner was sentenced to more than 30 years in prison for various alleged crimes. The military is cracking down on protests and armed resistance across the country.
