Washington DC, United States.- Republican senators asked President Joe Biden this Wednesday to reverse the order to end Title 42 next week in the face of a possible increase in migrants that would be unsustainable.

“We are writing to you today to implore you to reverse your decision to end the Title 42 public health order, which will expire on May 11,” states a letter from the Republican senators led by Lindsey Graham.

“By the Department of Homeland Security’s own estimates, border surges in response to the termination of the order could reach 13,000 encounters with illegal immigrants a day.”

The policy imposed by former President Donald Trump that allowed the express expulsion of migrants.

Republicans say that after the end of the health order, caring for migrants will be “unsustainable and will exacerbate what is already a national security and humanitarian disaster on our southern border.”

Graham, for his part, called sending troops to the border “ridiculous theatrics” and said Trump did the best job of “my political career.”

“May 11 is going to be a nightmare day for the American people,” Graham said on the Senate floor.

“(The health order) is one of the most effective tools to discourage illegal migration. All hell is going to break loose next week.”

Yesterday, the Biden Administration announced the dispatch of 1,500 soldiers to the border with Mexico to support the United States Border Patrol in administrative and logistical tasks, before the end of Title 42.

“They are not going to carry out law enforcement functions or interact with migrants. This will release (cargo) Border Patrol agents,” Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House press secretary, said yesterday.

The Secretary of Homeland Security of the United States, Alejandro Mayorkas, will travel this week to the Texas border with Mexico before the measure is lifted, the agency said in a statement on Wednesday.
