Former President Barack Obama First Daughter Sasha Obama was spotted smoking a cigarette with friends while donning a skimpy bikini at a Labor Day party in Los Angeles on Monday – days after her dad, Barack Obama, became embroiled in a scandal over claims made by former Fox News host Tucker Carlson that the former President had been involved in relationships with men.
The recent University of Southern California graduate, 22, certainly appeared to be enjoying the federal holiday. Photographers caught the youngest daughter of former President Barack taking some puffs from a lit cigarette as she stood on the street with her pals.
Sasha wore only a small white swimsuit top – which left her midriff and belly button ring on full display – and a long, flowing navy blue maxi skirt, which she paired with black flip flops.
The 22-year-old kept it natural with minimal makeup, and she left her long, braided, brown locks loose.
This is certainly not the first time that Sasha has been caught smoking – as paparazzi have snapped shots of her partaking in the act on numerous occasions.
It’s a habit she may have picked up from her father, who previously admitted to smoking up to 10 cigarettes a day and has been very honest about his struggle to quit.
Barack, 62, began smoking as a teenager and he famously promised his wife, Michelle, 59, that he would quit before he campaigned for president.
In 2009, he admitted during a press conference, ‘As a former smoker I constantly struggle with it. ‘Have I fallen off the wagon sometimes? Yes. Am I daily smoker or a constant smoker? No. ‘I don’t do it in front of my kids. I don’t do it in front of my family.
‘And, you know, I would say that I am 95 per cent cured, but there are times where there are times where I mess up.’
In his 2020 memoir, A Promised Land, the former President said that he at one point smoked up to eight, nine or 10 cigarettes a day.
He credited his eldest daughter, Malia, now 25, with helping him to quit, writing that seeing her ‘frown’ at him after she ‘smelled it on his breath’ made him determined to stop.
Malia has been seen puffing on a cigarette numerous times in recent years. The spotting comes days after Fox alum Tucker made a slew of accusations about Sasha’s dad.
Sasha and Malia are currently living together in Los Angeles. Sasha moved to the West Coast in 2022, after she transferred to USC from the University of Michigan.
She graduated from the college in May with a major in sociology, while her parents cheered her on from the crowd. As for Malia, she headed to California after she finished her studies at Harvard in 2021, and she’s currently working as a screenwriter.
The sisters seem to be enjoying the razzle and dazzle of LA, and they were seen partying into the wee hours of the morning alongside a slew of celebrities at a party hosted by Drake last month.
The star-studded bash took place at the coveted members-only club, The Bird Streets Club, and was attended by tons of famous faces like Saweetie and Anderson .Paak.
Sasha and Malia also recently jetted off to their family’s lavish $12 million estate in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, where they joined their parents for their annual family vacation.
Back in November, Michelle gushed over how her two daughters became each other’s ‘best friends’ after going through a period of not being able to ‘stand each other.’
‘The thing that I love the most is that those two girls are each other’s best friends,’ she told Today hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager.
‘There was a period of time when they couldn’t stand each other, and I said, “You wait, you are going to wake up one day and you’re going to look over at that other person, and you’re going to know that you two share something very unique,” especially given what they’ve been through.
‘To see them in that place where they’re one another’s support systems and they’ve got each other’s backs, it’s the thing that a mother would want.’
