Berlin’s new Senator for Labor and Integration, Cansel Kiziltepe (SPD), wants to ensure that all districts take in refugees equally.

Kiziltepe emphasized on Friday on rbb24-inforadio that all districts were required to provide accommodation. The Senate is currently focusing primarily on temporary buildings so that nobody has to live on the streets. Kiziltepe reiterated the forecast that places for 10,000 to 12,000 people still have to be created.

The SPD politician, who as a senator is responsible not only for integration but also for the area of work, also defended the new coalition’s planned cession of training places. Structurally, Berlin is not well positioned when it comes to apprenticeships. Only about every tenth company is currently training. “That’s a bit unfair,” Kiziltepe said on rbb24-inforadio.

If nothing changes, Black-Red wants to introduce a training place levy. Companies that do not offer apprenticeships would have to pay for them. The money will then benefit training companies.

The SPD politician wants to build on the work of the previous Senate in social policy. Her goal is to end homelessness by 2030. Kiziltepe considers the housing shortage to be the central socio-political issue of our time.

The former parliamentary state secretary in the Federal Ministry of Building praised the fact that the federal government had doubled housing subsidies. She also hopes that the urban development administration will speed up procedures and approvals. Kiziltepe also referred to the possibility of special building rights for the construction of refugee accommodation.
