The access to information officer in Afghanistan was able to pay the 8 euros necessary to obtain Twitter Blue. A certification that raises questions.

Twitter Blue is starting to show its limits again. Twitter’s paid subscription, relaunched on December 12 after many changes, already seems to show some problems, especially on the people who can claim this blue badge.

Hidaytullah Hidayat was notably able to benefit from the famous blue tick. However, he is head of access to information in Afghanistan and is therefore part of the Taliban regime.

Twitter Blue is not normally accessible in Afghanistan

A decision that raises questions, especially on how this senior Taliban official was able to benefit from Twitter Blue. Since its return, Twitter Blue is normally only available in five countries around the world: the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

It was therefore necessary for Hidaytullah Hidayat to use a VPN and/or a billing address in one of these countries. The official, however, claims that he is indeed in Afghanistan in his location indicated in his Twitter bio.

Twitter indicates on his page dedicated to Twitter Blue that to access the blue tick, the account in question may not show any sign of deception, manipulation or spam. The social network also indicates that each certification is subject to verification by Twitter teams.

Hidaytullah Hidayat is currently the only member of the Taliban government to benefit from this blue tick.
