The Franco-British actress who plays Maeve, one of the main characters of the Netflix program, has announced that she will not be present in the fifth season of the series.
Emma Mackey will bid farewell to Sex Education. The Franco-British actress, revealed for her flagship role of Maeve in the hit Netflix series, said she would not be present in season 5 of the program.
On the sidelines of the Baftas ceremony, where she was awarded the “Rising Star” prize, Emma Mackey told the press that the fourth season of Sex Education, expected soon on Netflix, would be his last.
“I just finished filming the fourth season last week. […] I don’t think I will be in season 5. I said goodbye to Maeve”, she assured the media Radio Times.
Key character of Sex Education, Maeve is introduced in the first season of the series as a friend of Otis (Asa Butterfield). With the latter, the young teenager, who needs money, sets up a sexology practice to help students at Moordale High School, against payment.
Chain departures
Emma Mackey isn’t the only star of Sex Education to leave the cast of the series. The actresses Simone Ashley, Tanya Reynolds and Patricia Allison – who respectively play Olivia, Lyly and Ola have also confided that they will not be present in season 4 of the program.
Another great departure, that of Ncuti Gatwa. The actor who portrays the role of Eric in Sex Education announced that he would be leaving the show after season 4 to play the show’s main character Doctor Who. He succeeds Jodie Whittaker and will be the first black actor to play the Doctor.
Many characters will therefore be missing from this next season, but new protagonists should however be introduced, such as comedian Dan Levy, according to a first trailer released at the end of August 2022.
According varietyseason 4 of Sex Education will follow the adventures of the inseparable Otis (Asa Butterfield) and Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) in a new high school, after the closure of Moordale.
