There has been a lot of speculation and rumors lately pointing to the successor to the Switch being released in 2024. Today we got probably the best indication yet that things are on the way, as electronics manufacturer Sharp said in its earnings call earlier today that they manufacture LCD screens intended for a “new game console”.
Via Bloomberg Sharp’s CEO Robert Wu also says:
“I can’t comment on any details regarding specific customers. But as to a new gaming console, we’ve been involved in its R&D stage.”
While of course it could be a different company than Nintendo, we can imagine that their next console will actually have an LCD screen, and it also sounds like a large-scale project. Nintendo themselves have said that no new hardware will be released this fiscal year (which ends on March 31, 2024), meaning their next console could launch from April to December next year.
