Mohamed Simakan did not have high hopes for a nomination for the World Cup in Qatar. As the RB Leipzig defender explained in an interview with the ‘Leipziger Volkszeitung’, there was no exchange between him and the French national coach. “I also read in the newspaper that there was speculation that I could be called up. But I had no contact with our national coach Didier Deschamps.”Simakan clarifies.

Nevertheless, the 22-year-old admits that he wants to play for the Équipe Tricolore in the future: “But I like the challenge of making it there. It goes step by step – the next step would be the senior national team.” So far, Simakan has only been used for the U20 and U21. The right-footed player still has to wait for his first appearance for the senior national team. One goal for Simakan could be the upcoming European Championship tournament in Germany in 2024. “Of course it would be great to play for France in Germany”explains Simakan looking into the future.
