Sofa Vergara makes history at the Emmys by being the first Latina nominated for Best Actress

MIAMI.- The success of Griselda continues, as the protagonist of the production, Vergara Sofa, has made history in the Emmy being the first Latina nominated in the category of Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Movie.

Although the Colombian has already competed in the most important television awards for her work in another successful project such as Modern FamilyThe model and businesswoman had not won this category before, as she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series from 2010 to 2013.

Sofa Vergara’s reaction to the historic nomination

With this history, the new Emmy nomination represents the fifth for Sofia Vergara, who took advantage of social media to remember her work in Griselda.

Through several stories On Instagram, the Barranquilla native showed some images and behind-the-scenes footage from the filming of the miniseries. She even brought up a commercial for a café where a scene from the production is recreated in which Griselda has a dialogue with the Marianitos.

“What you have to know is that if you work for me you will have a purpose and you will have respect,” Sofia Vergara is heard saying in the commercial.

“I was very interested in Griselda’s story because I was really surprised the first time I found out she existed. I lived in Colombia in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, when drug trafficking was at its peak in Colombia, unfortunately, and we all knew who the drug traffickers were… and in all those decades I had never heard of a woman or anyone ever said that name, and for me, trying to understand why there was a woman who had four children, that is, a mother, who had been so bad, who had been able to go so far in such a brutal business, I found it fascinating, and above all, why does no one know her? That really caught my attention,” said Sofa Vergara in an interview with Europa Press.
