Soprano Anna Netrebko returns to the US with the Palm Beach Opera

MIAMI.- The soprano Anna Netrebko is scheduled to give a recital at the pera de Palm Beach for a gala on February 3, 2025, which would be his first appearance in the United States in six years.

Considered the world’s greatest soprano, Netrebko was fired from the Metropolitan Opera in 2022 after she refused a demand from Met general manager Peter Gelb that she disown Russian President Vladimir Putin following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Netrebko sued the Met, alleging defamation and breach of contract in a case that is pending.

She has since appeared at major theatres including the Vienna State Opera, the Paris Opera, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the Staatsoper unter den Linden in Berlin, but has not been engaged in the United States or by the Royal Opera in London. She last appeared at the Met in 2019 with Macbeth de Verdi.

Soprano’s reaction to performance at Palm Beach Opera

Netrebko performs alongside pianist Angel Rodriguez at The Breakers hotel.

“I am honored to lend my voice to the annual Palm Beach Opera Gala,” Netrebko said in a statement to The Associated Press on July 31.

The Palm Beach Pear season includes three performances: Romo and Juliet, by Gounod, in January; The Traviataby Verdi, in February; and The Marriage of Figaroby Mozart, in April. The casts have not been announced.

Previous Palm Beach Opera galas have featured Luciano Pavarotti, Plcido Domingo, Jos Carreras, Rene Fleming and Bryn Terfel, with Isabel Leonard (2024), Piotr Beczala (2023) and Nadine Sierra (2022) appearing in recent years.

It means a lot to me to join the remarkable list of illustrious singers who have participated in this celebration over the past decades, Netrebko said.
